For your holiday homework, you must complete all work assigned in your Holiday Homework Folders before your return. Do not wait until the last day(s) to finish this!
1. Create a Magazine/Photo Journal using the following guidelines:
- Decide what your Photo Journal /magazine is based on - your holiday, family, books, travel etc. You can choose any topic. You can also include a wide variety of topics.
- Write relevant articles/entries and use pictures. (You must have at least 5 articles/ journal entries that are a minimum of Gr. 6 - 150 words each.
- Your magazine/ Journal should be at least 12 sides (6 pages) long. It can be longer if you want. OR create an online magazine/journal on your personal blog (with at least 5 photos/pictures)
- Feel free to create advertisements. Please do not cut existing advertisements from magazines and stick them in.
- Most importantly, be creative!
2. Read at least 250 pages including at least one novel and write Reading Responses to topics below on your own personal blog.
4 Reading Response Blog entries (choose one topic each week, not all the last week--see due dates below) of at least 150 words each, answering any of the following questions. Please pay attention to proper grammar, punctuation and spelling. (due dates: Fridays, July 3, 10, 17, 24)
- Your favorite character? Why?
- Favorite or least favorite part of the book. Why?
- Interview a character from your book. Write at least 10 questions that will give the character an opportunity to discuss his or her thoughts and feelings about his or her role in the story. How you choose to present your information is up to you.
- Write a diary that one of the story's main characters might have kept before, during, or after the book's events. Remember that the character's thoughts and feelings are very important in a diary.
- Make a comic (graphic novel) or mini-book about the main parts of the story.
- Write a letter from you to a character in the book, and write the character’s response letter.
- Add another character to the book. Why would he be put there? What part would he serve? Use direct and indirect characterization to describe the character.
- Write an alternate (different) ending (climax and resolution) to the novel
Write the plot for a sequel (follow-up story) to this book, including title, characters, setting, conflict, events, climax and resolution. - Write a poem to respond to something in the story
- Pretend you are a newspaper reporter and write a News Article about an event in the story
- Teach a lesson on story elements, or on this story.
- Make a book cover (scan it and post the picture on your blog) and/or bring it to your ESL class.
3. Complete any other ESL English holiday homework assigned by your section teacher.
Also, remember that you should attend an English Academy/class for a minimum of 20 hours during the summer holiday. Please be sure your English teacher sends (email/letter) confirmation of your attendance to Mr. Endo at scottendo@woodstock.ac.in.
