ESL Holiday Homework -- Grade 6

For your holiday homework, you must complete all work assigned in your Holiday Homework Folders before your return. Do not wait until the last day(s) to finish this!

• 25 new vocabulary words in your green ESL vocabulary dictionary (that equals 125 words total), with definitions and example sentences
• Supplemental ESL Work
• Foods Vocabulary Worksheets—study vocabulary and write worksheet exercises (except listening)
• Read and complete “Hamburgers” and write answers in complete sentences
• Complete Cooking Recipe Project and be prepared to present
• Complete ESL English holiday homework assigned
• Read the ESL Blog at least once a week, and write 4 Blog entries (1 each week in January) of 150 or more words each, responding to posted question or topic.

Cooking Recipe Project

During the holiday, you will be finding one recipe from your family or home country to share with your Supplemental ESL class when you return in February. Use food and cooking vocabulary from your vocabulary worksheets. You should be ready to demonstrate (show) how to cook your food following your recipe when you return. Bring any (non-perishable) ingredients from your home country that are difficult to find here in Mussoorie.

You should also prepare a menu of other dishes/foods to be served with your featured dish (sides, fruits/vegetables, desserts, drinks, etc.)

Requirements for the project:
• Choose one favorite recipe from family or home country in English
• There must be an Ingredients and a Cooking Preparation section (see example)
• There must be at least 5 ingredients and at least 5 preparation steps
• Take digital photos of each step (and ingredients) of recipe

Powerpoint
• Make a Powerpoint Presentation with at least 5 slides on cooking process for your recipe with:

• Title page (Name of Dish/Food and Your Name)
• Ingredients list with amounts (how much of each ingredient)
• All steps in the cooking process. Each slide should have a photo and cooking instructions for one or two steps

• Include in your Powerpoint at least 3 additional slides of dishes/foods to be part of the meal
• Present your Powerpoint to the class upon return to Woodstock after winter holiday
• You will possibly demonstrate your cooking recipe to other students.
